Until the relatively new connexion to the KKH (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Karakoram_Highway\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-tooltip=\"en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Karakoram_Highway\">Karakorum Highway<\/a>), Shimshalis were pretty much self-sufficient and the products of the altitude pasture formed the major source of Shimshal food supplies both for consumption or selling. Still today, it\u2019s an important source of subsistence.<\/p>\n<p>Each year in springtime le village changes to the rhythm of \u201ckuch\u201d, i.e. the transhumance, up to the mountain pastures.
